How to Draw a Standing Figure – Time-Lapse

MATERIALS: Staedtler Pencil 2B, Derwent-Artists -Pencil Ivory Black

This time-lapse drawing of a standing person looking at the sky is simple to draw. This is the time-lapse drawing version that demonstrates the process of creating this figure standing. If you want to draw along with me watch the narrated version -details above. Starting from a simple circle for the head I use this to measure the rest of the body. Once the proportions of the figure have been worked out, you will see the basic shapes drawn.

On completing the basic shapes a more complex outline is sketched in. Lots of sweeping lines create the folds in the clothes, simply because it is the easiest way to draw them. Once the outline is completed, it is time to start to apply light and shade. Varying the pressure on the pencil creates ranges of tones of light and dark. Watching the time-lapse drawing is a great way to watch a drawing move from initial marks to completion.
